As you get older, one of the first places that wrinkles appear is around your eyes. “Crow’s feet,” as they’re commonly called, are all too common as people get older. The skin around the eyes is relatively thinner than the rest of the skin on the face, making it more prone to wrinkles. But, these wrinkles aren’t caused solely by uncontrollable factors like aging or genetics. Wrinkles around the eyes can develop as a result of overworked eyes muscles, squinting, or rubbing your eyes too much. To help prevent wrinkles from forming around your eyes, here are some things you can do.
Preventing Wrinkles
First, get your eyes checked regularly. Vision tests once a year are not just for children; every adult should get them as well. Getting your eyes checked regularly is increasingly important in today’s world where most adults spend many hours a day looking at bright computer screens, tablets, and phones. These things are hard on the eyes, and the harder your eyes have to work, the easier they tire out. After a while, you’ll find yourself rubbing your eyes excessively and squinting in an attempt to see better. This in turn overworks the muscles and ultimately leads to forming wrinkles. Another culprit is bright sun exposure, which also leads to squinting and can cause sun damage around the eyes. Therefore, to prevent wrinkles from forming around the eyes, get your eyes checked regularly, use reading glasses when you’re reading or looking at screens, and wear UVA and UVB-protective sunglasses when you’re out in the sun. Not only will this help to prevent wrinkles, but it will also help to prevent vision loss from overstraining your eyes.
Treating Wrinkles
While you can do a lot in terms of prevention, wrinkles may still form around your eyes. There are several techniques that can be used to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and eye wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®, as well as JUVEDÉRM® are some of the techniques employed by Dr. Messa to treat and rejuvenate the eye area and reduce facial lines and wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® inhibit the movement of those facial muscles that cause wrinkles to form, and JUVEDÉRM® restores volume along the orbital rim. The results of these treatments can last for several months, and treatments can be repeated as often as necessary.
