Men in the transitioning process may feel that their feminine breast appearance prevents them from achieving the masculine or androgynous physique they desire. If you are in the transitioning process and wish to achieve a chest appearance that better matches how you view yourself, breast removal may be right for you.
What Is Breast Removal?
FTM breast removal is the partial or complete removal of breast tissue, skin, and fat. During the removal process, the contours of the chest are improved to achieve a more masculine appearance. Incisions are placed around the breasts to excise the unnecessary tissue. Excess skin is removed, and the remaining tissue is draped to highlight to contours of your chest.
Buttonhole Technique
The buttonhole breast removal technique is best suited for medium to large chested transitioning men because it enables a large amount of breast tissue to be removed. The buttonhole technique utilizes two incisions, one around the outer border of the areola and a secondary incision at the bottom of the breast tissue.
Double Incision Technique
The double incision technique is also ideal for medium to large chested patients. Two horizontal incisions are placed at the top and bottom of the pectoral muscle. The skin is pulled back, and the breast tissue is removed.
Inverted-T Technique
This technique should retain the most nipple sensation. An incision is created along the lower border of the areola that runs vertically down the lower breast and horizontally across the breast crease. It creates an anchor-like appearance. This technique preserves the nipple-areola complex structure and doesn’t require the use of a nipple graft.
Periareolar Incision Technique
Designed for smaller chested men with little existing breast tissue. The incision is created along the outer border of the areola. Breast tissue is removed.
Liposuction
Liposuction may be combined with any excision technique. Liposuction removes excess fat to create better definition and enhance the masculine contour of your chest.
Nipple Grafting
The amount of tissue present will affect which techniques may be used for your breast removal. Some techniques do not preserve the nipple. In these cases, nipple grafting using pedicle flaps can restore the appearance and minor sensation of the nipples.
