While breast augmentation surgery is still the most popular breast procedure, some women may be better suited for a breast reduction.
Overly large breasts can become cumbersome and place extra pressure on the spine, which can create back, neck, or chest pain. Large breasts can also limit movement and impact your ability to participate in physical activities.
Breast reduction surgery offers solutions to these problems while enhancing your breast appearance.
Breast Reduction Can Help You
-
Be More Active
For some, large breasts only contribute to chronic back pain; for others, large breasts physically make it challenging to participate in specific exercises (such as running).
With breast reduction surgery, your breasts are less likely to impede movement. This allows you to be more active and follow a healthier lifestyle.
Being active helps to improve your mood, boost your daily energy, and maintain a healthy body weight.
2. Have More Fun Shopping
Finding properly fitting clothing can be challenging enough without the added obstacle of large breasts.
Large breasts can create a disproportionate body shape or contour. You may find yourself buying tops that fit your breasts but hang loose on the rest of your torso, or vice-versa.
A breast reduction may allow for more flexibility with clothing choices since smaller breasts can better accommodate different styles, such as low-cut tops and dresses.
Looking your best can help you to feel your best and boost confidence.
3. Get Better Sleep
It may not be at the forefront of our minds, but how well we sleep is very important to our overall well-being.
Large breasts can be heavy on the chest and make breathing and relaxing difficult, depending on the position.
A breast reduction can reduce the amount of support needed when sleeping and allow for more freedom of position.
When better sleep is experienced, you can attain more energy and a sharper and more positive mental state.
How Is Breast Reduction Performed?
Dr. Messa utilizes the traditional breast reduction incisions and techniques. While the extent of your incision will depend on the volume of tissues being reduced, most women wishing to achieve a moderate to significant reduction will undergo breast reduction with an anchor (or inverted-T) incision.
The anchor incision runs around the areola before it extends down the lower pole of the breast and across the breast crease where the breast meets the ribcage.
This incision allows Dr. Messa to remove excess glandular tissue and fat and resculpt the remaining tissues to create shapely and uniform breasts.
Breast reduction is often combined with breast lift surgery to elevate the breasts and restore youthful perkiness.
While the incisions for breast reduction will result in post-operative scarring, these scars can be concealed under bras and bathing suits.
