Smooth, glowy, and flawless skin is highly sought after by many people.

Yet most of us are not naturally blessed with perfect skin. Maintaining a good skincare routine and using proper sun protection every day can certainly help improve your skin’s appearance; however, it is often not enough to deal with various skin concerns that many people deal with. Acne, oversized pores, uneven skin texture, and wrinkles are all common skin problems that many people struggle with.

Broadband light therapy and HALO® laser treatment are offered at Weston Cosmetic Surgery Center to help patients achieve their skin goals. We offer a combination of the two treatments for heightened facial rejuvenation results.

What Is BroadBand Light Treatment?

Broadband light therapy (BBL) is a non-invasive treatment that uses pulsed light therapy to improve the appearance of the skin. It can be used to treat a variety of skin concerns, including rosacea, acne, vascular lesions (such as spider veins), fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, and texture issues. BBL treatment is primarily used to target skin concerns on the face and neck, but it can also be used on the chest, arms, hands, and other body areas. During a BBL session, the light energy is used to increase collagen production and remove pigmented skin cells.

What Is HALO® Laser Treatment?

Similar to BBL, HALO® laser treatment is used for various skin concerns. HALO® is a skin resurfacing laser known for giving patients a remarkable glow. It uses the powers of ablative and non-ablative wavelengths to target the skin’s upper and underlying layers. This technology allows HALO® to treat surface concerns like skin texture and large pores, as well as deeper issues like sun damage and hyperpigmentation. HALO® laser treatment targets the superficial skin layers to reveal newer, healthier-looking skin underneath and boost collagen production.

What Are the Benefits of Combining BBL With HALO® Laser Treatment?

Combining Broadband light therapy and HALO® treatment allows for multiple skin concerns to be treated and at once, allows for more comprehensive results.

Some of the benefits of this combination of treatments include:

  • Increasing collagen production
  • Smoothing out uneven skin texture
  • Improving pigmentation issues
  • Rejuvenating signs of aging
  • Creating a glowy, rejuvenated appearance

Am I a Good Candidate for BBL With HALO®?

You may be a good candidate for this combination of treatments if you:

  • Have multiple skin concerns you would like to improve
  • Want to rejuvenate your skin with minimal downtime
  • Have realistic expectations for your results

What Is a BBL With HALO® Consultation Like?

The first step to your skin rejuvenation treatment is a consultation. During this time, you’ll discuss your skin history and what you hope to achieve with Broadband light therapy and HALO® laser treatment. If you are determined to be a good candidate for this combination of treatments, a customized plan will be made detailing the techniques used to create your desired results.

You will be instructed on how to prepare your skin for your upcoming BBL with HALO® treatment. This usually involves keeping your skin moisturized and wearing sunscreen. You may also need to adjust your skincare routine, particularly if you use any retinoids, as these can make your skin more sensitive to the laser treatment. Use of retinoids typically needs to stop at least two weeks before your treatment session.

What Is the BBL With HALO® Procedure Like?

Everyone has unique skin concerns, so this combination of treatments may vary in the techniques used for each patient. However, we typically start with Broadband light therapy first.

Before either of the treatments can be used on the face, your skin will be cleaned to prepare for the lasers. You will be given protective goggles to keep your eyes safe during the procedure.

A cooling gel will be applied over the skin for the Broadband light therapy part of the procedure. The BBL device will be passed over your skin, allowing it to target the chosen skin concerns. As the light energy goes over your skin, it may feel warm and mildly uncomfortable. However, the treatment typically is completed in around 30 minutes.

After the BBL therapy, a numbing cream will be applied to the skin in preparation for the HALO® laser. Then, the HALO® laser will be passed over your face, allowing the laser to treat multiple layers of the skin. This part of the treatment may take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the chosen treatment areas.

What Is Recovery Like After BBL With HALO®?

After your BBL with HALO® treatment, you can expect to have some redness and swelling. The sensation may feel similar to that of a mild sunburn. You can also expect to have tiny brown spots all over the treatment area, known as microscopic epidermal necrotic debris. These pigmented spots will naturally flake off and fall from the skin over the course of five to seven days. However, it is important to refrain from picking or peeling these spots off yourself.

You must keep your skin properly moisturized and protected from the sun during your recovery time. It is generally recommended to wear sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher. Your provider can provide you with additional aftercare instructions to help ensure your skin recovers safely.

When Will I See My BBL With HALO® Results?

Many patients see their results within one to two weeks of treatment. However, this will depend on your skin concerns, the number of treatment sessions needed, and your skin type. During your consultation, you’ll learn how many treatments you will need in order to achieve your desired results.
