5 Minute Read:

Getting older just isn’t what it used to be…and that’s a good thing. Nowadays, men and women are remaining active and youthful much later in life (including into their retirement!).

While some men and women may see retirement as a chance to sit on the couch for hours on end and not do anything, others are looking to get the most out of their later years and retirement.

If you fall into this last category, then why not consider starting your retirement off with a rejuvenated appearance?!

Plastic surgery procedures are not just for young people. Instead, they can help aging adults just as much (if not more) than younger men and women.

Below, you will find information on some of the most popular and beneficial cosmetic procedures to help you look your very best later in life.

1. Eyelid Surgery

They say that our eyes are the windows to our soul. Whether that’s true or not, the reality is that our eyes can be one of the areas of our face most affected by age. Drooping skin on our eyelids (sometimes so bad that the skin obstructs our vision), along with fat bulges, wrinkles, and general puffiness around our eyes can cause us to look much older than we actually are (and certainly older than we feel).

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a great procedure for rejuvenating those “windows to our soul.” With this procedure, excess skin and fat in the eyelids are surgically removed and the remaining eyelid skin tightened to give you a more youthful appearance.

At Weston Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Messa is proud to offer an array of different eyelid surgery techniques and procedures, including upper blepharoplasty (which corrects issues in the upper eyelid), lower blepharoplasty (which corrects issues in the lower eyelid), laser eyelid surgery, and transconjunctival blepharoplasty

2. Facelift and Neck Lift

While eyelid surgery and a brow lift help rejuvenate the upper portion of the face, both face and neck lift procedures address issues in the lower two-thirds of the face (from the cheeks to the neck).

Issues such as wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, double chin, and the presence of a “turkey neck” can all be improved with these procedures.

For facelift surgery, the underlying muscles and tissue are tightened and adjusted with the use of internal sutures, fat will be removed and/or redistributed, and excess skin will be surgically removed. The remaining skin will then be tightened to give you a more contoured lower facial appearance.

For neck lift surgery, weak platysma muscles in the neck are tightened, while excess skin will be removed. The remaining neck skin will be pulled tight before the incisions are closed. After your neck lift, you should have a slimmer and smoother neck as well as a more defined jawline.

3. Brow Lift

Similar to blepharoplasty, brow lift surgery (also known as a forehead lift) is a cosmetic procedure that helps correct the upper face. However, a brow lift focuses on the area above the eyelids, namely the eyebrows and forehead. This is another area of the face that noticeably shows the wear of age. Wrinkles and fine lines can appear on the forehead, and the eyebrows can sag and droop, contributing to a worn out, angry, and tired look.

With a brow lift, the tissue in your forehead and eyebrows are lifted and tightened (with the use of internal sutures). If necessary, excess and sagging skin and fat are removed.

After a successful brow lift procedure, you should look younger and more aware than you have in years. Dr. Messa is proud to offer the traditional brow lift procedure as well as the endoscopic forehead lift approach, which requires smaller incisions (though it does not allow for loose skin to be trimmed).

4. Breast Lift

As women age, their breasts begin to sag due to the ligaments in the breast tissue stretching and weakening. At the same time, the skin loses elasticity, which is unable to hold up the sagging tissues.

Breast lift surgery (mastopexy) is a cosmetic procedure in which sagging breasts are raised to a higher and perkier level. For this procedure, the sagging breast tissue is removed and repositioned to give a more aesthetically pleasing appearance

While a breast lift will not increase the size or fullness of the breasts, some patients choose to combine their breast lift with breast augmentation surgery, which enhances the size and shape of the breasts with the use of breast implants

This combined procedure can help you feel younger and more confident than you have in years so that you can step out on the town and start your retirement off by turning heads for all the right reasons.

5. Liposuction

As we age, we develop pockets of stubborn fat that just don’t seem to go away, no matter how active we keep or how healthy we eat.

Liposuction surgery can help you get rid of these pockets of fat. For this procedure, a small, thin tube (known as a cannula) is inserted into the areas where the fat is. This cannula loosens the subcutaneous fat. Then, the loosened fat is essentially vacuumed out of your body through the cannula. Once the fat is removed, it is gone permanently.

After your liposuction procedure, you should notice a thinner, more contoured body aesthetic that will increase your confidence as you enjoy your retirement years.
